Donald A Dochterman Obituary

Donald A. Dochterman, age 94, passed away peacefully on October 12, 2021, in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Don was born on January 3, 1927, in Williston, ND, to Dr. Lloyd B. and Helga D. (Petterson) Dochterman. He joined the US Navy in 1946, served for one year, and then attended the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities, where he graduated with a BS in Education in 1951. While in Minneapolis, he met and married Marjorie Wenrich and moved to Eau Claire, WI, where he accepted a position teaching at the Eau Claire High School. In 1956, he moved his family to Dallas, TX, where he accepted a position teaching at South Oak Cliff High School. In 1960, he left teaching to work for Collins Radio in Richardson, TX, a suburb north of Dallas. Collins Radio was eventually bought by Rockwell International and Don work as a Manager of Graphic Services until his retirement in 1988. In 1994, Don moved to Oshkosh, WI to live near both his children, Douglas and Deborah. Don was a very active man who was deeply involved in Barbershop singing and was one of the 12 founders of the Dallas chorus, The Vocal Majority. He sang bass with this chorus for over 30 years, over which time they won 10 gold medals in annual international competitions. He enjoyed boating (sail and pontoon), snowmobiling, live concerts, and had a lifelong love of music. Don also enjoyed fixing things and was very generous with his time and talent, often helping his neighbors and friends. Donald is survived by his daughter, Deborah (David) Sallee of Bixby, OK; two grandsons, Ryan (Glenda) Bolling of Katy, TX, and Tyler Bolling of Eagle River, WI; two great-grandsons, Roman and Max; and his favorite niece, Deborah Burgess, and nephew, Terry (Karen) Lemons. He is preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Lloyd B. and Helga D. Dochterman; his son, Douglas B. Dochterman, and grandson, Daniel D. Dochterman of Oshkosh, WI, as well as his brother and sister, and their spouses. The family would like to thank Debra and David Collier for caring for and blessing Don for the past two years, which enabled him to stay in his own home.
