Christopher Metz

Christopher Stuart Metz was born on April 25, 1957, in Fort Worth, Texas, to Air Force Lt. Colonel Richard S. Metz and Rose Ferrara Metz, both from Cleveland, Ohio. Along with his older brother, Jeff and younger sister, Julie, Chris moved to many military bases around the U.S., and overseas for four years to R.A.F. Alconbury, England in the early 1970’s. With another move to the state of S.C., Chris graduated from Sumter High School in 1977, where he met and married his loving wife of 43 years, Susan James. They started their family with son, Richard Earl and later added a daughter, Jennifer Roseann, followed by several grandchildren who affectionately called him Popi. <br><br>Christopher was a natural born salesman & amongst the list of his many jobs, he skillfully sold many pairs of Butler Shoes in Columbia, S.C., Euless, Texas & eventually Cape Coral, Florida. Towards the end of his sales career, he enjoyed working for Men’s Warehouse, where he received much care & support from a wonderful company.<br><br>Chris was an outstanding athlete & had a life-long love of golf. He worked at many South Florida Resorts & Clubs including Spanish Wells, Pelican’s Nest, Royal Tee & River’s Edge. Through his knowledge of the game, he taught golf lessons & owned his own business known as the Crooked Stick where he would customize clubs for his customers. He was a natural with a beautiful swing & a few hole-in-ones to his name.<br><br>He had a great passion for music, and he had all the moves like Jagger. The family distinctly remembers him banging on his drum set, which was high up in the attic of their home on Colchester Road in Cleveland Heights in the late 1960’s. He highly influenced others with his love of James Brown, Al Green, Carlos Santana and so many other soulful, musical artists. <br><br>When Chris settled in the Fort Myers area, he loved tending to his many palm trees that he planted and nurtured. His love of gardening and nature took root, and he turned his yard into a tropical oasis. Fondly known to his nephews as Uncle Crispy, he was always the life of the party & wherever he went he made fast friends. He will always be remembered for his wildly energetic personality & for making everyone in the room laugh.<br><br>Trahan Family Funeral Home of Milton is handling arrangements.
