Mildred Eileen McCoy, of Durango, Colorado, entered the gates of heaven on October 8, 2021 and is rejoicing with the Lord and loved ones. She was 91 years old. Mildred was born to parents Winifred Cora Haynes and Roy Haynes, on April 9, 1930 in Page, Nebraska. Mildred graduated from Page High School, Page Nebraska, and went on to study Education and Music at Nebraska Wesleyan University. Mildred graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Education and worked as a schoolteacher in Holdrege, Nebraska and Denton, Nebraska. Mildred taught her sister Melissa, in the 8th grade in Denton before moving to New York City, New York with her first husband. Mildred married Robert (Bob) Henry Robinson in 1951 and moved to Durango, Colorado in 1955. Mildred had four children, Jeannie, William, Barbara and Susan. She divorced in 1963. Mildred met Orville E. McCoy in 1964. They were married on May 6, 1965, in Durango, Colorado. Together with her children from her first marriage, Mildred became a mother to four stepchildren and an adopted granddaughter: Sandra, Wendell (Dell), Edwin, Priscilla, and Pamela. Mildred was an accomplished musician but her passion was singing. Her favorite songs were One Day at a Time and How Great Thou Art. She had a beautiful voice and recorded religious songs while in college. Mildred was a dedicated mother first and foremost. She treasured her children and grandchildren and embraced every moment with them. She loved her role as “Nini” and “Grandma”. Mildred loved music, playing the organ and piano, cooking, and baking (we will miss those famous pies and always said she should open a pie shop). She was a skilled seamstress and quilt maker. She loved to garden and her roses were beautiful. Her favorite color was purple. Mildred was a loving, kind person and most of all, made us laugh. She was devoted to God and his teachings were a cornerstone throughout her life. During the past nine years, Mildred was under the loving and devoted care of Isaac Fleener (grandson) and Tara Fleener (Isaac’s wife), Gerald (Jerry Fleener), (son-in-law), Margaret Turnell (best friend), as well as other family members and personal care givers. Survivors cherishing her memory include her sister, Melissa (Haynes) Neely of Lincoln, Nebraska; daughters, Susan (Robinson) Holman of Des Moines, Iowa; Priscilla McCoy and Pamela (McCoy) Crawford of Highlands Ranch, Colorado; numerous grandchildren; and great grandchildren. Mildred was predeceased by her husband, Orville McCoy; daughters Jeannie Robinson, Barbara “Barby” (Robinson) Fleener, Sandra (McCoy) Wells; sons William Robinson, Wendell D. McCoy, Edwin C. McCoy; grandchildren Eric Holman, Gage Fleener, Eddy McCoy, and Jennifer McCoy; Parents Winnie Haynes and Roy Haynes; brothers Elwin (Butch) Haynes and Melvin Haynes. The family has entrusted Hood Mortuary with the arrangements. A viewing ceremony will be held one hour before the funeral service at First Southern Baptist Church. A celebration of Mildred’s life will be held on Thursday, October 21, 2021, 1:00 p.m. at First Southern Baptist Church 1715 West 2nd Avenue, Durango, Colorado. Clyde Johnson will officiate the ceremony. A reception will follow after the internment at Crestview Memorial Garden.
