Walter Boyd &ldquo;Pudge&rdquo; Wech, age 73, longtime resident of the Ovid area, passed away at Cayuga Medical Center on Tuesday, October 12, 2021.</p> <p>The family will receive friends at Covert Funeral Home from 11:00am to 2:00pm on Saturday, October 16, 2021.&nbsp; A funeral service will then be held at 2:00, followed by prayers of committal at Ovid Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, kindly consider a donation in Pudge&rsquo;s memory to a local charity of your choice.&nbsp;</p> <p>Pudge was born in Mountaintop, Pennsylvania on March 30, 1948, the oldest son of Walter and Bessie (Barber) Wech.&nbsp; Pudge attended Ovid High School and was a stellar football player. He spent his career working at Willard Psychiatric Center, retiring from the Willard DTC as a chief electrical engineer in 2003. He loved keeping his lawn in order with his John Deere fleet. His time was spent with his constant companion, a chihuahua he affectionately referred to as &ldquo;The Mexican.&rdquo; A lifetime member of the South Seneca Sportsmen&rsquo;s Club, Pudge spent many years doing what he loved best, cooking great food and watching people enjoy it. Hunting was a favorite hobby in his younger years then fishing became a source of good memories spent with family and friends. Pudge also had a passion for coin collecting and enjoyed the many hours he scrutinized each one and researched every bit of data he could find on his acquisitions.</p> <p>He is survived by a daughter, Kelly (Dane) Daghita of Van Etten; son, Walter Boyd &ldquo;Pudge Jr.&rdquo; (Amy) Wech Jr. of Ovid; five grandchildren; one great grandchild; siblings, Robert (Juanita) Wech of Lodi, William Wech of Ovid, Elaine (Richard) Patterson of Elbridge, and Sue Johnson of Interlaken; a special aunt, Barbara Ann Gordner of Fairhope, Alabama; and a host of nieces and nephews.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Suzann Wyckoff; and sister, Tracy Lynn Wech.</p>
