Wayne Davis Burris, 88, of Albemarle, passed away Tuesday, October 12, 2021 at home surrounded by his loving family.

Born February 14, 1933 in Stanly County, he was the son of the late Lawson Alexander Burris and the late Nancy Jane (Eudy) Burris and was a teacher and successful businessman. 

Mr. Burris was a veteran of the U.S. Army, loved baseball, his family, his friends, his church, and his Lord. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 59 years, Avanelle "Abbie" Osborne Burris; a sister, Jennie V. Lee Morgan, and two brothers, Ray Lee Burris, and Billy Joe Burris. He is survived by two children, Mark W. Burris of Albemarle; Sarah Butts and husband William of Charlotte, and two grandchildren, Samuel and Benjamin Butts. 

Wayne will lie in state from 8:00 am - 5:00 pm, Sunday, October 17, 2021 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle. The funeral service will be on Monday, October 18, 2021 at 11:00 am at First Baptist Church of Albemarle officiated by Rev. Aza Hudson. Out of respect and consideration for the family, please wear masks during the service. Burial will follow at the Stanly Gardens of Memory at 2001 East Main St., Albemarle.
