John M. Faulhaber

John M. Faulhaber, 86, a long-time resident of Barrington and East Providence, died suddenly on October 10, 2021.  He was the husband of the late Carolyn (Hanson) Faulhaber and the son of the late John F. Faulhaber and Geraldine (Castricum) Faulhaber.

He is survived by one daughter, Susan (Francis) Seader of Barrington, two sons, John (Tania) Faulhaber from Apex, NC, and Thomas Faulhaber (Susan Trembley) of Boylston, MA., three grandchildren, Patrick Faulhaber (Susannah Bales),  Allison Faulhaber (Michael Adams) and Katherine Faulhaber. He also leaves four nieces and nephews.  

Born in New York City and raised in Passaic, NJ, Mr. Faulhaber was a graduate of The Choate School (now Choate Rosemary Hall) and Middlebury College. 

Mr. Faulhaber entered the US Army as a 2nd Lieutenant stationed at Fts. Benning and Knox in KY and in Germany.  At the time of his Honorable Discharge, Capt. Faulhaber was a Military Instructor in the Department of Military Science, Providence College Army ROTC.  After his separation from the Army, Mr. Faulhaber worked as a broker for  Paine Webber in Boston, Mass. for twelve years before becoming a Trust Officer and Vice President of the Private Bank of the Rhode Island Hospital Trust National Bank until his retirement.

Active in Freemasonry, Mr. Faulhaber was a member of Lessing-Passaic Lodge No. 67 in Rutherford NJ (where he was raised in 1966) and of Adelphoi Lodge No. 33, A∴F∴ & A∴M∴ which he served as both Master (in 1973 and 1982) and Treasurer of (from 1988 -2005). 

He served the Grand Lodge of the Most Ancient and Honorable Society of Free and Accepted Masons, for the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations as a Grand Master of Ceremonies from 1973-1979; District Deputy Grand Master from 1980-1983, Assistant, then Acting Grand Secretary from 1993-1995 until his election as its Grand Secretary from 1995- 2007 when he was appointed Grand Secretary emeritus which position he held until his death.

Mr. Faulhaber was a member of Providence Royal Arch Chapter No. 1, Providence Council No. 1, St. John’s Commandery, K.T. No. 1, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Providence, The Rhode Island Shrine and Moslem Grotto.  He has served on numerous Grand Lodge committees among which was his service as a Trustee of the Home Fund and as Chairman of the Board of Managers for Masonic Grand Lodge Charities of RI, Inc.

In addition, Mr. Faulhaber was the Grand Lodge’s Grand Representative to New Jersey, was first Vice President for the Masonic Boards of Relief of the United States and was the Vice-President of the Grand Masters-Grand Secretaries Conference.

Mr. Faulhaber’ s contributions were recognized by the Grand Lodge when it awarded him it’s Exemplary Service Award in 1991 and 1998, and it’s Distinguished Service Award in 2007.

The Grand Lodge and The Narragansett Council, B.S.A. jointly awarded him the Daniel Carter Beard Masonic Scouter Award for extraordinary active participation with the Boy Scouts of America.

Active in the Barrington Congregational Church and a former Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 1, Barrington Mr. Faulhaber was a Stockholder of The Squantum Association, of East Providence, (serving on its Board of Director) and acted in amateur theatrical productions with the Warren Players.  The Faulhabers were proud AFS host parents to Regina Witt from Brazil

Mr. Faulhaber was the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Powerdyne International, Inc. a publicly traded corporation in the energy industry from 2014-2019.

An avid outdoorsman and conservationist, Mr. Faulhaber enjoyed hunting, fishing, and boating in Maine and, particularly, at his cabin on Sebago Lake.  He was fly fisherman and upland bird hunter at Addieville East Farm, in Mapleville, where he was a member for many years.  He was a proud graduate of the Master Gardener Program at URI as evidenced by his and Carolyn’s gardens.

Until age prohibited, Mr. Faulhaber divided his time between his home in RI and his cabin in Standish, ME.  Travelling and cruising with his wife were also a passion of his and he was known to make the occasional wager at Foxwoods… where he usually won.

Calling hours will be held on Friday October 15, 2021 from 9:00 AM – 10:00 AM in the Smith-Mason Funeral Home 398 Willett Ave Riverside, RI 02915, followed by a service at 10:00 AM in the funeral home.  Burial will be in Swan Point Cemetery Blackstone Blvd, Providence, RI.
