Mary Gillespie Scott

Mary Gillespie Scott, 92, former resident of 172 Rutledge Road, widow of the late John R. Scott, died peacefully on Sunday, October 10, 2021 at Rolling Green Village in Greenville, South Carolina. Born December 30, 1928, in Magnolia, Arkansas, she was the daughter of the late Paul Graham Gillespie and Carolee Whiteside Gillespie. Mrs. Scott attended the University of South Carolina where she earned a degree in early childhood education. She was an active member of First Baptist Church, a member of the Self Memorial Hospital Medical Auxiliary, belonged to the garden club, study club, book clubs, several bridge clubs, and enjoyed her work at the soup kitchen. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother to her children, and a wonderful grandmother. Surviving are her four children, Carol S. Stone and husband Ted of Spartanburg, John R. Scott, Jr. and wife Kathy of Greenwood, Elizabeth S. Dameron and husband Mark and Jane F. Whisnant and husband Frank, all of Greenville. Also surviving are grandchildren, Wade Scott and his wife Meghann with their daughter Scarlett, Reed Few and her husband Eric with their son Milo, Scott Dameron and his wife Amy with their daughter Addison, Anna Few, Tom Dameron, John Wesley Scott, Will Stone, Caroline Stone, and Cannon Few. She was also predeceased by a grandson, Neil Scott, sisters, Reba G. Parker and Dorothy G. Gerace. Memorial services will be conducted at 3:00 PM October 31st at the First Baptist Church with Dr. Tony Hopkins officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Greenwood Soup Kitchen, 929 Phoenix Street, Greenwood, SC. 29646 or MDA National Office, 161 N. Clark, Suite 3550, Chicago, IL. 60601.
