Constance Tucker

Sinclair, Maine – Constance “Connie” Tucker, 76, died peacefully at the Aroostook House of Comfort in Presque Isle, Maine on October 6, 2021 after a long illness.

Connie graduated from Neshaminy High School in Langhorne, Pennsylvania in 1962 and Frankford Hospital School of Laboratory Technology as Valedictorian of her class in 1964. She worked at hospitals, commercial blood banks, and as a silk screen artist in Philadelphia before marrying her first husband, Pedro T. Simon, M.D. She moved with him to Valhalla, New York in 1966 where she worked in the Bacteriology lab for the County of Westchester until the birth of their children. They settled in Caribou, Maine in 1972 in pursuit of Pedro's career as a thoracic and vascular surgeon.

During Connie's life in Aroostook County, she proudly served on many boards and organizations including the Cary Memorial Hospital Auxiliary as the Publicity Chair and President, the Maine Medical Association Auxiliary as Newsletter Editor, and the Caribou Development Corporation as a member of the Marketing Committee. Connie was also an Advisory Board Member of the Northern Maine Museum of Science and a Director of the Nylander Museum. She was a member of the Caribou Rotary Club. 

Connie was also a proud volunteer for the Hospice of Aroostook for 18 years, a community worker for the American Cancer Society, and a volunteer for the North Lakes Fire Department. An avid animal lover, Connie was a board member of the Central Aroostook Humane Society and she cofounded Caribou Pet Rescue, for which she was a recipient of the American Red Cross Real Heroes Award in 2007. 

Connie continued her education and earned her Bachelor of Arts with Honors at the University of Maine at Presque Isle and her Master of Arts at Vermont College. While at UMPI, Connie organized the first Writer's Conference in 1981 and developed many lifelong friendships and connections as both a student and an Adjunct Professor of Art. She enthusiastically shared her passion for photography and fine art with young students in local schools and the Upward Bound summer program. Connie was highly regarded and respected for her expertise in creative media — establishing businesses in Caribou throughout the years including Windy Hill Images, South Point Media, and Star Design and Marketing — as well as an editor for many authors and publishers. She is lovingly remembered as the “Grammar Police.”

A wonderful chef, Connie was the Maine State Champion at the National Chicken Cooking Contest and enjoyed representing our state with her delicious Lemon Mint Chicken Thighs recipe. She shared many of her favorite recipes in several print and online publications over the years.

Despite an active life pursuing business and creative ventures, Connie was a devoted and loving mother. She was a great Mom!

Connie married the love of her life and soulmate, Jerold Tucker on December 4, 1987 and established their homestead at Madawaska Lake for over 30 years. Together they shared a love of rowing, the call of the loons, and the peace and stillness of Madawaska Lake. Connie took gentle and loving care of Jerry in the years after he was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer's Disease. She is forever grateful for the special care he received from the staff of Aroostook Hospice and takes comfort in knowing he is loved and cared for currently at St. Joseph's Memory Care. Connie and Jerry's love for each other is boundless, and will live forever in the hearts that knew and loved them.

She is predeceased by her parents, Gerald and Helen Weissinger of Caribou, Maine. She is survived by her husband Jerry of Frenchville, Maine; son Tomas Simon of San Jose, Calif., his spouse Kate and their children Owen and Julia; son Mark Simon of Boston, Mass., his partner Nikki and their children Kai and Teo; daughter Bennet Flinner of Hollis, Maine, her spouse Kevin and their children Sameena, Tristyn and Colton; sister Carol Simonetta of Pennsylvania; brother Mark Weissinger of Georgia; sister Linda Lupowitz of Florida; and many loving cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

As Connie set a wonderful example in service and giving, please contribute in her memory to the charity of your choice.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date in the Summer of 2022.
