Georgina A. Grace Obituary

Gloucester, MA - Georgina “Gigi” Alice (Marchant) Grace, 85, passed away suddenly on October 11, 2021. She was the widow of the late Joseph Richard Grace and daughter of the late William Henry Marchant and Mary Bridgit (Baldwin) Marchant. She was born in Gloucester on July 7 1936. Gigi, having ancestors who were among the original founders of Gloucester, dating back into the 1600’s, grew up in Bayview across from “Little Beach” and the “Marchant family fish shack”. She graduated from Gloucester High School with the class of 1954. She married Joe a few years later and worked for Rodger Babson at the Open Church Foundation for many years, then Gorton’s of Gloucester for over twenty years before retirement. Spending a lot of time in the outdoors, Gigi loved camping, travelling, and following her passion of collecting old bottles, rock and minerals with her husband Joe and four children. She had many fond memories of Hodgkin’s cove and the ocean, fishing and lobstering on the boat named after her, the fifty-six inch striped bass she once caught, tuna fishing with her husband, or just hanging out. In earlier years she enjoyed going to Bingo with her children and many friends. Later making puzzles, playing Solitare, and enjoying the many pictures on her ipad, and don’t forget the scratch tickets! Her life was devoted to her family and she loved each and every one of them, as the individuals they are. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her treasures and she loved spending time with them. Lately, with the covid situation she loved sitting in her comfy chairs outside visiting with neighbors, friends and family watching the clouds and wildlife in her back yard. Gigi is survived by her children; Joseph W Grace and wife Deborah (McGillivary), Judith I Skerry and husband John, David R Grace and wife Jennifer (Sprow), all of Gloucester, and Katherine G MacInnis and husband Lance of Middleton. Grandchildren; Cristy, Renee and Laurie Grace, Kendra Carrancho and husband Jack, Brian Hardy and wife Heather, Adam Hardy and wife Tiffany, John Grace, Meg Palazola and husband Bryan all of Gloucester, Sarah Lawson and husband Billy of Wedgefield, Florida, Kelly Polisson and husband George of Hamilton, Nat Skerry and companion Kelly Sonia of Salem. Fourteen great grandchildren; James Vadala, Zachary Lacey, Justin L’Abbe, Casey and Isabella Curley, Julia Carrancho, Logan and Kailey Hardy, Landon Hardy, Nikolas and Ellyanna Viruet, Michael Polisson, Piper Palazola, and Noah Skerry. She also leaves behind her sister Nancy Donigian of Methuen along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends. Gigi was predeceased by her husband, parents, brothers; Jackie Marchant and his wife Nancy (Miller), William Marchant and his wife Caroline (Dolloff), and Gilbert Marchant, Sister; Elizabeth (Betty) Berg and her husband George. Brothers in law; Jack Donigian, Albie Grace and his wife Mary Lou (Stuart), Nephews; Scotty Grace, Gregory and James Marchant and Niece; Pamela Marchant. Arrangements: Graveside Services will be held at Seaside Cemetery, 88R Langsford Street, (Lanesville) Gloucester on Monday, October 18, 2021 at 11 AM. Following the services will be a Celebration of Life at the Elks at Bass Rocks, 101 Atlantic Road (Backshore) Gloucester. Family and Friends are invited.
