Latasha Rochelle Henderson Obituary

Latasha Rochelle Henderson was born on November 30, 1984 to Tommy Simmons, Jr. and Sharon Simmons. Although born in McKinney, TX, she grew up in Sherman, TX and attended Sherman schools. In 2008, looking for a fresh start after struggling with substance, Tasha decided to move to Dallas with her older brother Marcus. She hoped the move would rid her of all her past vices, but she still struggled for some time after moving out on her own. Tasha was resilient, a fighter, and she had faith that she would overcome her addiction. Tasha often felt it was her mission to be a living testimony for those who also suffered from substance abuse. She was never one to shy away from talking about her past because she was proud of all she had overcome. Her yearning for a renewed relationship with her children, Itavia and Thomas, was her biggest motivation and what led her to be clean for the last 8 years; she once again was a part of their lives. Her children were her heartbeats and she loved them with everything in her. Tasha was always the life of any party or family gathering and her presence was immediately noticed by all. She always knew just what to say and was often told she should go into sales or telemarketing. Some would even say she could sell you your own car because she was just that good. There was no shortage of personality for Tasha and she was a go getter with a hustler spirit. Life took an unexpected turn for Tasha when she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2017. All of the many procedures and chemo treatments took a toll on her body but not on her spirit. Many of the people that knew her, were never aware she had cancer because she refused to let it define her or her life. One of Tasha’s greatest loves was music, especially rap. She loved to rap and even went by the rap persona “T-Mac”. Even whilst sick in her bed, you could hear her rap about anything from her life, to her illness, to the Thanksgiving turkey. Her family often fussed at her to take it easy and give herself time to heal, but she refused and instead vowed to take advantage of every day and every opportunity she had. Tasha was a warrior who remained optimistic about her health until the very end. On October 13, 2021, Latasha went to be with the Lord. She was preceded in death by the love of her life, her fiancé, Terry Jackson. Left to cherish her vibrant memory are: daughter, Itavia Traylor, son, Thomas Carter, Jr., parents, Tommy Simmons, Jr. and Sharon Simmons, brothers, Marcus Henderson (Corey), Anthony Henderson (Shameka), and Quincy Henderson, grandparents, Tommy Simmons, Sr. and Delores Henderson, 3 nieces, 4 nephews, 11 aunts, 8 uncles, 32 first cousins, and a host of other relatives and friends.
