Since June 27, 1981, the family of Josef Sean Egerson Williams (Joey) has had the distinct pleasure of being graced by his bright smile, his pleasant demeanor, and his willingness to always find time for others. However, in an unfortunate turn of events, Joey became ill and on Sunday, October 10, 2021, God saw fit to send his angels to release Joey from his pain. Education and academic learning were a priority to Joey. He attended public schools in Talbot, Caroline, and Frederick counties, graduating in the top 5% of his class at Frederick High School in 1999. While in high school, Joey participated in the marching band, soccer, basketball, and track. He was also inducted into the National Honor Society. After high school, Joey continued his studies at Morgan State University, Baltimore, MD, graduating with high honors, Magna Cum Laude, in May 2003. While attending Morgan, Joey was inducted into the “Golden Key International Honor Society”; he was selected as an “All American Scholar”; and he was a member of the Maryland Student Legislature, where he co-sponsored a bill to reenact the voting rights of ex-offenders. Also, while at Morgan, Joey had the opportunity to expand his love for music by working as a Radio Host/Producer at WEAA where he produced a weekly five-hour radio program focusing on the development of the acid jazz sound in Baltimore City. His DJ name was “Joe da intern”. Joey had a love and a knack for expressing the written word, hence his degree in English. At his death, he was compiling a portfolio of his writings which consisted of prose, poetry, and plays. Joey originally had aspirations in the field of law, which he followed by attending the Claude W. Pettit College of Law at Ohio Northern University in Ada, Ohio. When those plans were not realized, he chose a different career path as an educator in the Baltimore City Public School System, while also working in the food and beverage industry. It was in the foodservice industry that he reinvented his love of music, thus becoming Audio Joe. Outside of work, Joey spent time volunteering for civic and nonprofit organizations - working with the homeless, assisting with political campaigns, and participating in recent protest marches. He was also a 12-year member of the Sons of American Legion-Squadron 87, Corporal Herman Hughes American Legion Post 87, Detachment of Maryland. One of Joey’s bucket list items was to become a contestant on the TV game show, JEOPARDY. Every year, he came closer and closer. If you knew Joey well enough, you knew that he was a hardcore fan of the Philadelphia Eagles football team. As a youngster, Joey attended church and Sunday School at Allen A.M.E. Church, Hillsboro, Maryland with his Aunts Gloria and Ginger. After moving to Frederick, Joey accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior, was baptized, and became a member of First Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of Rev. Dr. William H. Graham. Joey is survived by his: parents, Marcus Carlton Williams and Margaret Egerson-Williams; sister, Lennette Ward; grandmother, Jeannette Williams; god sister, Duranda Jones; special cousin, Nichole Wright; special friend, Neddra Smith; and a host of uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, and nephews. Joey was preceded in death by his: maternal grandparents, James and Mary Egerson; and his paternal grandfather, Willie J. Williams. Joey’s family was deeply hurt to learn of his sudden passing. His mom and pop, the ones who supported and encouraged him to always do his best and, who were his biggest fans, loved him most. The love from all of his many aunts, uncles, cousins was unconditional. He and his cousin, Nichole, were especially close, always staying in touch and looking out for each other! Joey’s sense of humor will surely be missed as Joey could bring a smile to everyone’s face during the family events and holiday gatherings, which he truly loved. We miss you, Joey, we really do.
