Anita (Jones) "Gabby" Hunt, 93, a lifelong Smithfield resident, passed away Sunday October 10, 2021. She was born in Providence, the daughter of the late Harold F. and Esther I. (Pettis) Jones. She was the former wife of the late Arthur B. Hunt, Jr. Anita was a secretary for the Providence Washington Insurance Co. from 1947-1951 and for the Greenville Finishing Corp. from 1963-1970. She was the first full time female employee for the Smithfield Fire Dept. beginning in November 1970. She graduated from North Providence High School in 1947 and attended Katherine Gibbs School for 1 year. She was a former member of the Greenville Grange #37, the Providence Assembly Order of Rainbow for Girls #1 and served on the advisory Board of the North Scituate Rainbow for Girls #14. She was also a member and Senior High Advisor for Greenville Baptist Church. Anita is survived by her daughters, Gail A. Anthony (Leonard) of Williston, SC and Donna J. Anderson (Kevin) of North Scituate. She was the sister of the late Donald and Prescott Jones. Anita is also survived by her grandchildren Lea Hitchen, Michaela Anthony and Kellie A. Anderson; 5 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. Her funeral will be held Thursday, October 14, 2021 at 11am in the TUCKER-QUINN Funeral Chapel, 643 Putnam Pike, Greenville. Burial will be private.
