FAIRHAVEN – Noemia M. (Soares) Matias, 87, of Fairhaven, died Monday, October 11, 2021 at Alden Court Nursing and Rehabilitation Center after a lengthy period of declining health. She was the wife of the late Jose R. Matias with whom she had shared 58 years of marriage and daughter of the late Guilherme Soares Diogo and Maria da Conceicão (Mendonca) Soares. Born in Fazenda do Nordeste, St. Michael, Azores, she came to this country in 1968 and was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church. Mrs. Matias enjoyed cleaning, but her greatest joy was spending time with her family. Her family includes 1 son, Mario Matias and wife Alcira of New Bedford; 2 daughters, Fatima M. Lerias of New Bedford and Alda Loureiro and husband, Jack of Seekonk; 4 grandchildren, Candice and Kenneth Matias and Jared and Jaden Loureiro; brother, Eduardo Soares and wife Normanda of New Bedford; niece and nephew. She was the mother-in-law of the late Tony Lerias Private funeral arrangements entrusted to AUBERTINE-LOPES FUNERAL HOME, 129 Allen Street.
