Sarah Burkhalter, 53, of Las Cruces, passed away on September 26th, 2021, in Las Cruces. Sarah was born El Paso, TX and grew up in Cloudcroft, NM. After high school in Cloudcroft, she attended College at NMSU where she graduated with a degree in Music Education. She went on to become a choir director for 30 yrs. She was loved by her students so much that many have gone on to be lifelong friends. Sarah loved music and her students and was very passionate about both. She was the bright in so many live’s and insisted that in death there should be a celebration and we should sit around and tell funny stories about her. Sarah is preceded in death by her brother, Tim Mills, her father, James Mills, and her son Zachary Aurada. She is survived by her husband, Quincey Burkhalter, her sons, Zachary Burkhalter, 18 and Liam Burkhalter, 9, her stepdaughter Katherine Burkhalter, 23, her mother Mary Mills-Taylor and her granddaughter Sophia Aurada, 2. The memorial is scheduled for October 16th at Las Cruces 1st, 5605 Bataan Memorial W at 1 pm. Masks are required, food will be served within the memorial service. Plan to celebrate the awesome person she was.
