Freda Kathleen Kuonen Obituary

Freda Kathleen Lindsay Kuonen, age 69, of San Marcos, California went to be with the Lord on the morning of October 2, 2021. Her passing was at Scripps Encinitas Medical Center as a consequence of a long battle with cancer. Freda was born on September 11, 1952 in Cleveland, Ohio, one of five children born to James Garfield Lindsay and Zada Elizabeth Brown Lindsay. She is survived by three sisters, Zada Merrilie Booth, Marjie Lee Norte (Ronan), and Charlotte Lynn Rust (Steve); one daughter, Kathleen (Kathy) Ane McElroy Wright; one daughter-in-law, Michele McElroy; five grandchildren, Tommie III and Samantha Elizabeth Wright; Amber LeeAnn, Aaron, and Autumn McElroy (Keegan May); and seven great-grandchildren, Tarren Glen and Titus McElroy; Aziza, Nevaeh, Lilly Elizabethane, and Jonathan Newman; and Everlee May. Preceding her in death are her brother, Garfield Clifton Lindsay, her son, Fredrick Glen McElroy, and grandson, Austin Glen McElroy. Freda was torn between living and longing to be with her husband Rocky Kuonen after his passing on July 23, 2020.

While very young, she married, conceived, and raised two beautiful children. Even then she was full of life, bubbly, and daring. During her first pregnancy, she defiantly rode a bicycle, without any fear, ignoring what she had been told. She said, “It's great exercise and I was told to remain active!” Her unique giggle would add to any conversation and supplement everything she chose to accomplish. Fred was her nickname then and later Sister Golden Hair related more to her unique reactions in life.

In the mid-seventies, she added to her education by completing administrative assistant training at Central Kentucky Technical Vocational School (CKTVC). This educational opportunity resulted in many years of employment with the Lexington Health Department in various administration positions. After settling in San Marcos, she became an associate for Scripps Health, who graciously supported her throughout her illness. Freda accepted Christ and was baptized at the age of 14 at Woodland Baptist Church in Lexington, Kentucky. Later in life, she traveled to Escondido, California to begin anew and met her last love Rocky while working at the 7-Eleven. During this time, she also earned her California Realtor license. On March 14, 2009, Rocky and Freda were married at the Casitas del Sol Clubhouse (in their neighborhood). They were later sealed for time and all eternity on April 19, 2016, in the Laie Hawaii Temple. She transitioned to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, a major benchmark in her life, and was blessed by and blessed others by serving faithfully. Freda also took on the call to become the president of the HOA at Casitas del Sol until her health made it too difficult. Although she will be missed by us all, she is in the hands of our father, safe, well, and happy.
