Roosevelt Kendrick, Jr. Obituary

Roosevelt’s Life Journey

Behold, I am the Lord’s servant; let it be to me according to God’s word.” Luke 1:38

Roosevelt Kendrick, Jr., the son of the late Roosevelt Kendrick, Sr., and Mildred Kendrick, was born in Macon, Georgia, on February 16, 1946. He attended school in Macon and later moved to Miami, Florida, to establish himself as a truck driver and later as a tavern owner. After many years in Florida, Roosevelt would move to New Jersey to work for Western Electric. He would later retire to Wilmington, Delaware.

Roosevelt learned to love and trust in God at New Zion Missionary Baptist Church, Macon, Georgia. He would carry that love and trust with him to Florida, where he met and married his wife of 39 years, Vonjlay Pinkney-Williams, in 1975. Together, they would raise their three children, Keith, Tracy, and Stephanie, to love the Lord who rules their lives to this very day. Praise be to God! In 2016, he would marry Helen F. Grayson of Wilmington, Delaware.

Roosevelt would continue his service to God during his later years at Cornerstone Fellowship Baptist Church of Wilmington, Delaware. There he would continue his praise for the Lord as a member of the Male Chorus. Roosevelt was a giving person, ready to lend a helping hand. After a long fight with cancer, the Lord would notice him and call him home on September 10, 2021. Even as he suffered, he did so with dignity and trust in the Lord’s will. If you knew him, you would know that “Roosevelt has fought the good fight, he has finished the race, he has kept the faith. Now, “there is in store for him the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to Roosevelt on the day of the resurrection — - and not only him, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.” 2 Timothy 4:7-8

Roosevelt’s final wish is that his family, friends, and church family, continue in the Lord’s love. He leaves in the Lord’s care his son: Keith Kendrick, daughters,

Tracy Kendrick-Glenn and Stephanie Kendrick-Williams; brothers: Evangelist Anderson Kendrick, Minister Levi Clemonts, III, and Eric Clemonts; ten grandchildren: Khalif, Brandon, Kavina, Eric, Shannon, Tristan, Michael, Quentin, Deja, and Jada; eight great-grandchildren: Sanai, Shannon, Jr., Eris, Koryn, Kevonte, Maliyah, Loray, and Amere; and a host of nieces and nephews.

A Viewing will be held Thursday, October 14, 2021 from 10am to 11am at Cornerstone Fellowship Baptist Church, 20 W. Lea Blvd,. Wilmington, DE 19802, where a Funeral Service will begin at 11am.  Interment will follow in Lombardy Cemetery, Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE.
