George Evans

George Evans, 92, of Las Cruces, died on Thursday Oct. 7, 2021 at home. George was born Feb. 25, 1929 in San Marcial, NM, the son of Charles and Lucy (Alderete) Evans. George had several vocations throughout his long life – a radio operator in the Army Air Corps, a physical education and special education teacher, and a salesman. He always offered a smile or a little joke to friends and strangers alike. George enjoyed a variety of sports and other activities, including golfing, dancing, fishing, rock hounding, jewelry making, and metal detecting. Survivors include his children, David Evans and his wife Marilyn of Las Cruces, Bruce Evans and his wife Patty of Roswell, daughter Lori Van Note and her husband Zachary of Albuquerque, and 7 grandchildren. Also surviving are brothers James, Raymond, Leo, and Charlie Evans. He was preceded in death by his wife Sonja Evans, daughter Conti Evans, and his parents. Memorial service: 2:00 p.m. Sunday Oct. 17 at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church. His ashes will be interred at the columbarium at St. Andrew’s. Memorial donations may be made to St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church.
