Sarah Rachel Temple Naples, Florida Obituary

Sarah Rachel Temple

Sarah Rachel Temple, nee Katz, of Naples, Florida, and Chicago, Illinois, passed away on October 9, 2021. Much like her maiden name, Sarah was born with nine lives. Actually, more than that. Upon seeing a discarded container for a 275-calorie diet meal, she once remarked, “They don’t give you enough food in those, so sometimes I eat two of them.” Who could argue with logic like that? She defied her many doctors, surgeons, and nutritionists time and again to live 88 years. And she was able to celebrate her 64th wedding anniversary on September 29th to Donald Temple, her devoted husband. Sarah graduated from the University of Illinois and worked as a copywriter at Sears, Roebuck before marrying Donald in 1957 in Chicago. She was the original remote employee: She convinced her bosses at Sears to allow her to work from home on a part-time basis in the early 60s. As a result, Sears initiated a part-time, work-from-home policy. While she was a dedicated, stay-at-home mother, she was also an active and avid investor. Wall Street Week, Stock Market Observer on channel 26 in Chicago, and CNBC were among her favorite television programs and channels. Sarah is survived by her husband Donald; her three children—Michael (Jeanne), Matthew and Madeline; and her grandchildren, Susan (Nathan) and Mark. Private services were held already. If you wish to honor her, have a Chicago-style hotdog with everything on it, a large fries, and a Diet Coke. Or consider donating to JumpStart, a nonprofit that promotes financial literacy. Or both.
