Martha Kathleen Harris Baird

Martha Kathleen Harris Baird, 84, passed away peacefully Sunday, October 10, 2021 at Rome Health Rehab Nursing Home in Rome, GA. She loved to read and her beloved dog, Angus. Martha was born in Newton, MS, on May 9, 1937, to James Harvey Harris, Sr. and Maude Etoile Harris. She grew up in Collins, MS and graduated from Salem High School and the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg. She taught school for several years in Mobile, AL and Rome, GA. Martha later moved to Shannon, GA., where she worked and retired from the Burlington Coat Factory. She is survived by Sisters, Sandra D. Broussard (Louis), Deborah Harris (Monica Ward), Brother Michael D. Harris (Christy) and numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her adopted family Milt and Angie Travis, Josh, Jacob and Sarah. She was preceded in death by her parents, James Harvey Harris, Sr. and Etoile Harris, brother, James Harvey Harris, Jr. and sister, Sylvia Sue Harris. Martha was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Rome, GA. A graveside service will be held in Decatur, MS on October 14 at 10:00 am. Arrangements managed by Wade Funeral Home, Collins, MS.
