John B. Cooper, 81, of Nampa, passed away peacefully on October 1, 2021, at his home.

He was born June 29, 1940 to Margaret and John E. Cooper in Tulsa, Oklahoma. John attended school in Tulsa, graduating from Edison High School in 1958. He attended East Central State University in Ada, Oklahoma on a football scholarship, graduating in 1962 with a bachelor’s degree in Education.

He married Susan Hobbs in 1961 and they had two children, Jon and Kelly; they were divorced in 1969. During this time, he taught school and coached in Oklahoma and Clovis, New Mexico before coming to Boise with his family. In Boise, he taught and coached at Fairmont Junior High School and Boise High School. He was the head football coach at Boise High from 1972-1976. During his tenure, Boise High had outstanding teams, and players who went on to successful college teams throughout the U.S.

In 1977, he married Janet M. Thurmond in McCall, Idaho. She passed away in February 2010.

In 2011 he married Jo Ann Stiehl at the Birds of Prey Overlook above Swan Falls Dam. Together they formed a blended family and enjoyed travels in their motorhome and winters in Yuma, Arizona.

John is survived by Jo Ann Cooper; son, Jon Eric Cooper; daughter, Kelly Cooper Wong (Kim); grandchildren, Breanna Michelle Wong, Brandon Michael Wong; stepson, Rex Edward Stiehl (Tiffany); grandchildren, Mychal Edward Stiehl, Kaylee Rae Stiehl; stepdaughter, Angie Jo Dunlap (Gregg); grandchildren, Jake Tanner Dunlap, Luke Tyler Dunlap; and a brother, Geren Robert Cooper.

He was preceded in death by his parents John and Margaret Cooper.
