Graveside funeral services for Carl (Tiny) Odem are scheduled for 10:30 AM Thursday, October 14, 2021, in Memorial Park Cemetery with Bro. Karvin Adams officiating. Carl, a retired International Paper Company employee, passed away Sunday, October 10, 2021. Carl is survived by a son, Ralph Odem of Bastrop, LA; a daughter, Carla Churchwell and husband Mark of Hot Springs Village, AR; a sister, Wanda Howard of Hattiesburg, MS; four grandchildren, Allen Campo, Christa Mack, Stuart Leslie, and Tracey Schleh. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeannette Odem, and parents, Ralph and Maudie Odem. Carl served in the Army in 1946-1947 worked as a shipping clerk for International Paper Company for 35 years and retired in 1985. Carl and Jeannette married when he was 21 and she was 16. They were married 59 years that were full of love and laughter. Carl was a loving husband, father and friend. He was a member of First Church of God in Bastrop. He had a wonderful sense of humor and was always ready to share a story and a laugh with family and friends. He enjoyed working on his farm and raising miniature goats after retiring from IP. He loved good food and was a great cook. His country cooking and biscuits were enjoyed by many! The family would like to thank his longtime care givers, Carolyn and Rosalyn for their love and care; Lagniappe Healthcare for making his last few weeks comfortable; and Dr. Carter Cox for his years of care. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to your favorite charity, or First Church of God in Bastrop in lieu of flowers. Due to Covid-19, please wear a mask if you plan to attend the graveside services.
