Philip Andrieus Jones Skokie, Illinois Obituary

Philip Andrieus Jones

Philip Andrieus Jones, a highly respected trademark attorney and resident of Northfield, Illinois passed away on October 9, 2021 at the age of 55 after a heroic battle with cancer. Philip is survived by his wife of 27 years, Susan (née Ayres); his three sons Tristan Ayres, Aidan Andrieus and Oliver Ernest; his parents Michael and Susan Jones of Washington, DC; his sister Idina Auth and her husband, Charles of New Hampshire; his sister-in-law Marybeth Ayres Bolado and her husband, Carlos of Potomac, MD; and his father-in-law, Franklin Ayres of Glenview. He is preceded in death by his mother-in-law Margaret Ayres. Philip was a loving uncle to several nieces and nephews. Philip was born in Kobe, Japan on January 19, 1966. He attended Brooks School, graduating in 1984. Philip excelled as a student and athlete at Brooks, discovering his passion for the study of history as well as his love of hockey, rowing and football. Philip went on to attend Princeton University, furthering his study of history and devoting four years as a dedicated member of the Princeton crew team. Upon graduation, Philip returned to Brooks to teach history before entering Law school at Boston University where he received his JD in 1993. It is at BU Law where Philip met and fell in love with his classmate, Susan Ayres. Philip and Susan married in 1994 while launching their respective law careers in Chicago. Philip and Susan moved to Northfield where they raised their three sons. Philip loved every minute of being a father to Tristan, Aidan and Oliver. When he wasn’t working or coaching one of his son’s hockey teams, Philip pursued his passion for skiing. He loved his many years skiing at his family home at the Sugarbowl in California. Philip took every opportunity to share that joy with Susan and his sons who are all also very accomplished skiers. Philip was an active leader in many youth sporting organizations. He was the quintessential hockey dad, teaching many young people on the North Shore to skate, shoot and fall in love with a game that was such an important part of Philip’s life. Nothing could spark passion in the usually quiet Philip more than a competitive youth hockey game! In addition to his strong support of athletics, Philip served on the Sunset Ridge Board of Education for four years, devoting countless hours in support of educational excellence for the children of Northfield. Philip was a deeply spiritual individual who lived his life with the guidance of his Catholic faith. Philip was a man known for his kindness and clarity of purpose. He was a loyal and trusted friend and colleague to many during his lifetime; everyone who had the privilege to know Philip was inspired by his incredible devotion to his family. Nothing gave Philip greater joy than spending time with Susan, Tristan, Aidan and Oliver.
