William S. Bigley

Longtime Local Landscaper U. S. Army Veteran William S. “Biggs” Bigley of Townsend, MA, formerly a longtime resident of Chelmsford, died peacefully October 4, 2021, at Nashoba Valley Medical Center in Ayer, aged 69 years. Born in Boston on September 10, 1952, a son of the late William and Jane (Scanlan) Bigley, he was educated in the Chelmsford school system, and graduated from Chelmsford High School with the Class of 1971. Mr. Bigley enlisted in the U. S. Army on September 8, 1972, serving with the 3rd Battalion, 59th Air Defense Artillery. He received the National Defense Service Medal, and was honorably discharged on August 29, 1974. He spent most of his career owning and operating the Artistry Landscape and Design Company. An expert, accomplished skier, Biggs also worked as a ski instructor and snow maker during the landscaping off-season. In addition to spending the day skiing with friends, Bill enjoyed gardening, sailing, hiking, and being at the ocean whenever he could catch a break from work. A good party was always up there on his favorite pastimes, as was being in the company of his beloved dogs Biggles, Murphy, Kelsey and Roscoe, and his cat, Marley. He was known to pull off a good practical joke now and then, drive a little too fast sometimes, and occasionally play with fireworks. Most of all, he was a good, loyal, and fun friend who cherished his family above all else. Bill - we will set a place for you at the next dinner. You will always be missed by your family and friends. He is survived by a sister, Jayne Corey, two nieces, Melanie and Shanell, two nephews, Nathan and Devin, two grandnieces, Anna-Marie and Lumi Rose, and a grandnephew, Jai. He was the brother of the late Karen Diodati and Jeffrey Bigley. A Graveside Service with Military Funeral Honors will be held on Tuesday, October 19 at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Connery Avenue, Bourne, at 12:30 p.m. Arrangements are in the care of the Morse-Bayliss Funeral Home, 122 Princeton Boulevard, Lowell. Bill was a good friend that me and my family had many good times with. The story of his life above covers it very well.
