Jacqueline E. Kindler, 87, of Rome, NY passed away on October 10, 2021 after brief non-Covid-related illness. Jackie was born April 7, 1934 in Utica, the only child of the late Clinton and Hattie (Evans) Chesbro. She was raised in Rome, NY and graduated from Rome Free Academy. Jackie married Edwin F. Kindler on June 2, 1956 in St. Peter’s Church, Rome. They were married by the late Monsignor Buttimer and had 63 wonderful years together. Edwin passed December 26, 2019. Jackie worked at Rome Cable until starting a family. In later years she held various part-time positions, including at the Rome Art and Community Center, and retired from food services with the Rome City School District in 1993. She was also an active volunteer, including helping with events and activities at the First United Methodist Church (of which she was a long-time member) and ringing the bell for the Salvation Army at Christmas time. As an only child, Jackie always wanted a large family, and she and Ed had five children - four girls and a boy. She was very proud of the fact that all five children went to college and none went to jail. When the children were young, Jackie spent a large amount of time making them clothes, peeling potatoes, ironing and doing laundry, all of which she was happy to do. Jackie was a very social and active person and made friends everywhere she went. She was a Girl Scout Leader, a den mother, a chaperone for school trips. She bowled on a league and went skating one day a week for many years. Jackie loved to dance (including the polka!) and even took up line dancing when it was popular. You could often find her in the stands at RFA basketball games and would ride her bike to other local games. She also exercised at the YMCA until it was closed due to Covid. Jackie is survived by her five children: Kathy Howe (Bobby), Rome, NY; Carrie Kindler (Victor Choo), Rome, NY; Jill Bolton, Stottville, NY; Brenda Kindler (John Mahoney), Rome, NY; Edwin A. Kindler (Elva), Kennebunk, ME; a brother-in-law, Paul Kindler, Rome, NY; six grandsons, Anthony Bolton, Nicholas Howe, Douglas Howe, Edwin F. Kindler II, Philip Kindler, Henry Kindler; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by an infant granddaughter, Danielle Howe, and a son-in-law, Sam Bolton. Jackie touched a lot of people and will be truly missed. She lit up a room and was always good for a conversation and a laugh. She looked for the moon, commented on beautiful skies, and marveled at butterflies, birds, and wildlife. Jackie loved to play cards with family. She kept up with both the news and sports. She was vibrant, interesting, and fun to be around up to the end. She will be truly missed as her passing leaves a great void. Family and friends are invited to call at the Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, 418 N. George St, Rome, on Friday, October 15th, from 4 to 7pm. A service will be held at the funeral home at 10:00 on Saturday, October 16th with burial following at St. Peter’s Cemetery. All are invited to join the family. Those unvaccinated should wear a mask according to Covid protocol.
