Bruce attended college at Eastern Kentucky University majoring in philosophy and mathematics. He was a dedicated educator and was proud to have taught in Hazard, Kentucky and to have worked for the Army at Fort Knox as an educational counselor.

Bruce pursed the sailing life when he moved to Crescent City, Florida. He lived on his sailboat Paradox for two years, while he was math department head at the local high school.

He moved to the Florida Keys in 1974 to continue to follow his passion of sailing and taught at Coral Shores High School for the next 35 years of his career.

In 1977 he married Barbara and spent the subsequent years cruising the Bahamas during the summer and building his wonderful home on the ocean. Through the years he raised his daughters Carrie (KC) and Becca; motorhoming and camping all over the US and Canada added to the family experiences.

Bruce is survived by his wife of 44 years, Barbara, daughters Carrie (KC) and Becca, grandchildren Julia and Jase, brother David (Sharon) Swango of Louisville, Kentucky and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
