Jacob "Jake" Peters Obituary

It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that the family of Jacob Peters announce his peaceful passing at his residence in Macgregor on October 9, 2021, at the age of 78.

Jake was born on April 11, 1943 in Winkler, MB to Jacob and Helena Peters. He grew up south of Plum Coulee on a farm. At the young age of 12, he started working for various farmers in the area. At the age of 19, he was baptized at the Sommerfelder Church at Rudnerweide. He also met the love of his life, Hilda, when he was 19 and they married on May 10, 1964, when he was 21 years old. Jake and Hilda started their lives together in Rudnerweide, and he continued to work for farmers in the area, as well as operate a dairy of their own. He also loved driving trucks and began to drive truck for a variety of different people. Dad was a hard worker and he often held multiple jobs throughout his working years.

Jake and Hilda’s life together saw a lot of different places. From Rudnerweide, they moved to Woodmore where they would continue to operate a dairy. From Woodmore, they moved to New Hope where he drove gravel truck. From New Hope, they moved to Plumas, where they operated another dairy. Dad began trucking again, and in 1996 he started his own trucking company. They grew this business from one truck to a fleet of 10 trucks. Mom and Dad lived in Plumas for 38 years. In 2019, they moved to Macgregor. This was a hard move, as this meant leaving the family farm they had lived at for so long.

Throughout their years and travels, Mom and Dad raised 7 children. Family was extremely important to them and they spent many hours and drove many miles to watch grandchildren at many events. He loved when the grandchildren came to visit him. Dad had a solid relationship with Jesus and he wanted everyone to know Him too. Aside from teaching Sunday School for most of his adult life, he would take many opportunities to share what Jesus meant to him to those that he met along the way. Dad could never say no to a person in need and he took many opportunities to pour time and finances into lives around him. One of his deepest wishes was that all his family would come to know the Lord, and every Christmas and Easter included a Bible reading, reminding his family why, and what they celebrated.

Mom and Dad built many friendships wherever they went, and it was a rare occasion that Dad did not know someone any place he traveled. Dad loved people, and relationships were very important to him. Mom and Dad also loved to travel and went on a variety of trips and cruises.

Jake was predeceased by his parents Jacob and Helena Peters, his brothers Abe, Burt and Aaron, and his sisters Anne and Helen. He is survived by his wife of 57 years Hilda (nee Enns), children Rick (Carolyn), Rhonda (Brad), Victor (Raquel), Wayne (Anna), Yvonne (Justin), Sherri (Sean) and Jason. He is also survived by 21 grandchildren,  2 great-grandchildren and by 3 sisters Mary, Tina, and Louise.

Thank you to the Southern Health Palliative team for their support.  Thank you to Clarke’s Funeral Home for their care and compassion.  A special thank you to all those prayed and brought us hugs, food, and messages of support during this difficult time.

A Come and Go viewing will be held on Friday, October 15th at Clarke’s Funeral Home in Macgregor, Manitoba from 3 to 8 pm.
