Joseph Francis Bartley, III

PEORIA - Joseph F. Bartley, III, 77, of Peoria, passed away at 12:31 a.m. Sunday, October 10, 2021, at Apostolic Christian Skylines in Peoria. Born May 26, 1944, in Indianapolis, the son of Rosemary (Feil) and Joseph F. Bartley, Jr. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother David G. Bartley, his brother-in-law Neil L. Lewis and one nephew Thomas S. Bartley. Surviving are his siblings Michael F. (Mary Lou) Bartley of Peoria, Katherine S. Bartley (the late Neil Lewis) of St. Thomas, VI, Stephen P. (Lisa) Bartley of Franklin, TN and Julie M. (Kyle) Davidson of Simpsonville, SC, plus many nieces and nephews. Joe graduated from Spalding Institute (Class of 1962) in Peoria, Rockhurst College in Kansas City and the University of Michigan Law School and worked as an attorney for many years. He was a U.S. Army veteran during the Vietnam era serving at the White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico and Kaiserslautern Army Base in Germany. In 1993 he was named a Knight of St. Gregory by Pope John Paul II. Joe was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. He loved spending time with people and always made time to visit. Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 14, 2021, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Wright & Salmon Mortuary following the Rosary at 4:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday October 15, 2021, at St Philomena Catholic Church in Peoria, with additional visitation one-half hour prior to Mass. Father David Richardson will officiate, and burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name may be made to St Philomena Church.
