SERVICE INFORMATION:

Marilyn Louise (Connell) Turnbull, 85, of Shenandoah, entered into eternal rest at her home on Monday, October 11, 2021.  Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, October 15, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Shenandoah with Rev. Lazarus Kirigia as Celebrant.  There will be open visitation at the Nishna Valley Funeral Home in Shenandoah on Thursday (10/14/21) from 1:00 to 6:00 pm and Friday morning (10/15/21)  from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm (noon).  Burial will take place in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Shenandoah.  In lieu of flowers, memorials are being directed to the Turnbull Child Development Center in Shenandoah.

OBITUARY:

Marilyn Louise (Connell) Turnbull was born on August 26, 1936, to John (Joe) Joseph and Kathryn (Kate) Georgia (Gleason) Connell in Shenandoah, Iowa. She passed away on October 11, 2021, at her home in Shenandoah at the age of 85 years, 1 month, 16 days.

Growing up around the Shenandoah area, Marilyn attended school in Imogene until third grade and then the family moved to Shenandoah where she attended school until she graduated from Shenandoah High School with the Class of 1954.

Marilyn began working at a young age at various jobs around town. She and her twin sister, Marlene, had paper routes when they were young. They then worked at the Page Theater for many years, where Marilyn was the cashier. Upon Graduation from High School, she went to work at Henry Fields as a secretary. There she honed her skills to become partners with her husband in running James R Turnbull Painting and later acquired Delong Industrial Maintenance.

On June 9, 1967, she was united in marriage to her beloved James (Budd) R Turnbull in Blair, Nebraska. Together they built their successful business for the next 34 years. Marilyn was meticulous in her bookwork and all her duties.

The Turnbull’s were very generous to the Shenandoah Community. They shared their success with several large projects in the community. Just a few are the therapy pool at the Shenandoah Wellness Center, the all-weather track at Mustang Field, the Cardio Rehab Center at the Shenandoah Medical Center, infrared masks for the fire department and the Turnbull Child Development Center. The Turnbull Child Development Center was very important to Marilyn.

Marilyn also enjoyed going to the casino, playing dominos, shopping, and spending time with her friends.

Marilyn was a member of Saint Mary's Catholic Church and Saint Mary's Guild. Marilyn was an aunt to 27 nieces and nephews. Coming from a family with eight children, she was used to having family around and enjoyed the summer stays and visits from all of them, where many memories were made and laughter shared.

Preceding Marilyn in death were her parents; her husband, James R (Budd) Turnbull in 2001; brothers, John Connell and wife Virginia Connell, Patrick Connell and wife Wanda Connell and Charles (Chick) Connell and wife Lou Connell; sister, Kathleen Connell Beilman and husband Robert Beilman; brother-in-law, Dale Castle and Wayne (Marlene) Graham; sister-in-law, Dolores (Donald) Connell; two nieces, Cindy Connell Swain and Jennifer Connell Olson; and nephew, Mark Connell.

Left to cherish her memory are her sisters Helen (Connell) Castle and Marlene (Connell) Graham; along with brother, Donald (Pete) Connell; 24 nieces and nephews and their families; and a host of friends.
