Blair Young Obituary

James Blair Young

Sydney Mines

It is with sadness and broken hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Blair Young, age 82, loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, on Sunday, October 10, 2021, at the Northside General Hospital after a brief battle with cancer.

Born in Sydney Mines, he was the son of the late James and Gertrude (MacDonald) Young.

Blair was a coal miner for many years working in the Princess and Lingan mines and retiring from the Prince mine. He later enjoyed a few years of commercial fishing with his brother Urban. In his younger years Blair was known to have fished right off the cliffs of his home in Cranberry fishing eels.  He enjoyed his special times with his great grandson, Lincoln. Especially sharing their ice cream treats.

He is survived by his three children, Carmie (Chris) Edwards, Sydney Mines; Jimmy Young, Guelph, ON; Michelle (Shaun) MacInnis, Sydney Mines; his loving grandchildren, Kristen Young and Liam (Samantha Gracie) Edwards, Jamie and Amber MacInnis and Jamie-Jo (Andre Champagne) Young; by his two great grandchildren, Lincoln and Lily-Anna MacInnis; three sisters, Eileen (Malcolm) MacIntyre, Iris (Lloyd) Gaudet, Ann (Fred) Morris; sister-in-law, Brenda Young and several nieces and nephews.

Blair was predeceased by his wife Dorothy (Keigan) Young; a sister Carmie (Albert) Ivey and two brothers, Reginald “Urban” Young and Arlie Young.

The family would like to thank Blair’s niece, Debbie Ivey-Miller, for the love and compassion shown to Blair and his family, especially over the past few weeks.

At Blair’s request, there will be no visitation or funeral service. A private graveside service will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to the Cape Breton Cancer Centre, NS Heart and Stroke Foundation, or Hospice Cape Breton.

Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, North Sydney.
