<p>On Sunday, October 10, Florence Marie Burns Latimer, 93, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by family. She was the last child born to the late Frank and Adeline Wooster Burns in Rescue, Virginia on May 6, 1928.&nbsp; In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Linwood &ldquo;Buck&rdquo; Latimer, along with eight brothers and sisters.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>Florence lived a fulfilling life as a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She proudly retired from the Department of Social Services after dedicating 25 years of service to Sampson County. She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Clinton and instilled the importance of faith in her family. She enjoyed traveling, cooking, reading, and attending dance recitals and ball games. Being &ldquo;Mee Mee&rdquo; to her three great-grandsons, however, was her greatest joy.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>She leaves behind to cherish her memory her three daughters: Denise Mitchell and husband John of New Bern; Nancy Butler and husband Joe of Clinton; Penny Horne and husband Lyman of Clinton; grandchildren: Bradley Quick, Matt Butler, Ashley Montgomery (Robbie), Sara Hunter (Patrick), Katie Butler (Eric); great-grandchildren: Lake, Drew, and Gray Montgomery; and special friend, Shari Parker.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>The family respectfully requests no visitors in the home due to the current COVID-19 pandemic. Family and friends are invited to attend a graveside service Wednesday, October 13 at 11 a.m. at the Clinton Cemetery with Dr. Ray Ammons officiating.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made in her name to First Baptist Church, 408 College Street in Clinton or Community Home Care &amp; Hospice, 126 E Elizabeth Street, Suite B in Clinton.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>&nbsp;</p>

She was the last child born to the late Frank and Adeline Wooster Burns in Rescue, Virginia on May 6, 1928.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Linwood “Buck” Latimer, along with eight brothers and sisters.

 

Florence lived a fulfilling life as a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.
