Harvey Ben Pope Obituary

Harvey Ben Pope was born on October 8th, 1939 in Weiser Idaho.  Everyone knew him as “Ben” or “Bennie”.  He was the 3rd of 4 children to Roy Lee Pope and Marguerite Eva Pope.  It was on his birthday this year, October 8th, 2021, that he succumbed to respiratory failure due to Covid pneumonia and went to be with our Lord.  Ben was raised in a family that worked hard together, played hard together and loved one another.  He took these values with him through his life.  He enjoyed basketball and football during his school years and was a very competitive individual.  He graduated from New Plymouth High School in Payette Idaho in 1958.  Ben’s father taught Ben and his brothers Floyd and Del how to hunt and fish.  His mother was a dedicated gardener which encouraged Ben to hit the garden with a salt shaker so he could snack on tomatoes and cucumbers.  He loved to tell that story.  After graduating Ben enjoyed many different things; he worked in the grocery industry he was a store owner then finally settled down to becoming a pet groomer.  His shop, Classic Clips, was located on 4th and Thor in Spokane.  He enjoyed helping pet owners keep their pets healthy and clean.  He was a natural.

Ben and Kathi met in the 1980’s and married on July 4th, 1986.   When Ben retired, he enjoyed being the one that was available to family and friends to help out where he could.  He also continued with his love of fishing and cooking.  After many back surgeries, he had to start learning how to slow down.

Ben was preceded in death by his parents, his oldest brother Floyd and his sister Jean.  He is survived by his wife Kathi, daughters Brandi and Mindy (Jason) and his younger brother Del Pope (Martha).  Ben has 8 grandchildren locally that have come to love and adore him; Trent Hawkins, Cameron Andrews, Bryan Andrews, Paige Hawkins, Marissa Andrews, Tristan Hawkins, Chance Krauss and Tea Krauss.  He enjoyed hanging out with them just to share stories and be a part of their lives.  Ben also enjoyed watching his many nieces and nephews grow up and start their own families; always looking forward to holidays or birthday parties or family reunions.  Ben had a smile that could put anyone at ease.  He will be missed dearly!

A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, November 6th at 1:00 pm.  The service will be held at Valley Fourth Church, 2303 S. Bowdish Rd., Spokane Valley, WA 99206
