Margaret Elizabeth Smith Obituary

Margaret E. Smith was born December 24, 1924 in Philadelphia. Margaret graduated from Kensington High School in Fishtown and married Joseph Smith in 1945. Margaret moved to Havertown in 1951. Margaret and Joe had 4 children together. Margaret became a significant volunteer of Sacred Heart Parish with parish and children's activities. She met Fr. Foley (later Cardinal Foley of the Vatican) at Sacred Heart and they became life long friends. Four generations of her family went to Sacred Heart. Margaret also volunteered at St. Edmond's Home for Children, the Retreat House in Ardmore and the Little Flower Home. Margaret moved to Riddle Village in 2014 after her husband Joe passed. She was known at Riddle Village for having the best decorated door. She assisted the priests saying Mass at Riddle Village in addition to participating in the rosary group. Margaret enjoyed going to the casinos, eating at buffets, shopping in thrift stores and watching EWTN. Margaret is survived by three children: Clint, Bernadette and Marge, ten grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. Margaret was preceeded in death by her parents, Michael and Sarah Allex, her husband Joe, her son Mike and siblings Catherine and Billie Allex. Family and friends may call 9:30 to 10:15 AM Wednesday October 13 in Sacred Heart Church, Havertown followed by her Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM. Interment is in SS peter & Paul Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations in her memory may be made to St. Joseph's Villa, 110 W. Wissahickon Ave, Flourtown, Pa 19031.
