Barbara Elaine Henderson Barbara Henderson, of Atlantis, Florida and Westfield, New Jersey, born in Brooklyn, New York and raised in Colorado Springs, Colorado, passed away peacefully on October 8, 2021. She met Greer F. Henderson, the love of her life, at Shepherd Citations where she worked, and he was a CPA from New Jersey who came out to Colorado to audit the company. Within one year they were engaged, then married and moved to New Jersey. They had a fairytale romance for over 44 years until she was widowed. Barbara then married Arnold Toivonen, a rocket scientist whom she met in Atlantis, Florida and they had ten wonderful years together until he passed. Barbara was a world traveler and one of her favorite trips was a trip to Turkey and seeing the Blue Mosque in Istanbul. She and her daughter Heather had a memorable trip across Alaska enjoying the wildlife, beauty of the “last frontier” and laughing at their adventures. She was adored and a true inspiration to her children and grandchildren, George & Chloe. She and her daughter Holly Mandala shared so many interests, but they especially loved flowers and gardens. She and her son Bruce shared a love of animals, nurturing strays, injured birds and taking in cats who needed a home. Barbara was a philanthropist, donating to many causes and was especially interested in helping animals and supporting scholarships to provide educational opportunity. She has been a loyal supporter of St. Peter’s University, Seton Hall Prep and Purdue University. She was a founding parishioner of St. Helen Roman Catholic Church in Westfield, New Jersey and attended St. Matthew Catholic Church in Lake Worth, Florida. Visitation will be from 4 to 7pm Thursday October 14th at the Dooley Colonial Home 556 Westfield Ave. Westfield. A funeral mass will be held at a time to be determined on Friday in St. Helen R.C. Church in Westfield, followed by burial in Fairview Cemetery, Westfield. In lieu of flowers, please support the Westfield Rescue Squad.
