Martha Fletcher Obituary

Martha Gene Fletcher, 97, of Holts Summit, Mo., passed away peacefully on Friday, October 8, 2021, at her daughters’ home.

Martha was born on April 2,1924 in Iberia, Mo., the 2nd oldest child born of Leonard and Thelma (Forester) McCubbin. She was married in Cedar City, Missouri, on August 28, 1948, for 63 years to John H. Fletcher, who preceded her in death on June 15, 2012.

A lifelong resident of the Central Missouri area, Martha was a proud 1942 graduate of Brumley High School. After graduation, Martha started her career at Service Club #2 in Fort Leonard Wood. She then went to work at Tweedie’s Shoe Factory in Jefferson City (1946 until 1956). Martha truly loved being a mother and wife, and made the decision to stay home and take care of her children and grandchildren.

Martha was a true believer, and her faith meant a lot to her. She was baptized in Barren Fork Creek in 1937 and was a long-time member of Hickory Point Church of Christ.

Martha was content staying home and being surrounded by her keepsakes of family photos, cards, letters, news clippings and stuffed bears. She enjoyed reading, playing checkers and softball. She was a great cook and enjoyed sweets, Jello, oatmeal, peanut butter and chocolate pudding; country music, one of her favorites being Alan Jackson, watching old tv shows, like Ozark Opry, The Waltons and Little House on the Prairie. She looked forward to her daily phone call with her son and any other family member that called to check on her. She enjoyed fresh cut flowers, her daughters’ dogs Zoey and Pepper were good entertainment for her while staying with her daughter for the last four years and 8 months. Most of all, Martha cherished all her family and the memories they made, especially those of caring for her children and grandchildren.

Survivors include: one son Allen D. Fletcher of Holts Summit, one daughter Lois A. Alexander (Jon) of Jefferson City; brothers, Norman McCubbin of Eugene, and Donald McCubbin of Auxvasse; sisters, Lora Lea Barlow (Jim) of Iberia, and Darlene Groff (Eugene) of Chillicothe, Ill, grandchildren, John A. Fletcher (Katie) of Jefferson City, and Kyle A. Fletcher (Heather) of California; and great-granddaughter, Emma Jones.

Martha was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband, John; twin brothers, Wayne McCubbin (Dorothy) and Waid McCubbin (Jewell), Eula Mae Rustemeyer (Francis), Lorene Woods (Henry); and sisters-in-law, Elizabeth and Loretta McCubbin.
