Mr. Gordon William Blackwell, 68, passed away Saturday, October 9, 2021 at Hospice of Davidson County.
Born January 17, 1953 in Rowan County, he was the son of the late Stokes William Blackwell and Josie Mae McIlwain Blackwell and birth mother, Verline Blackwell.
Educated in the public schools of Rowan County, he was a graduate of South Rowan High School, Class of 1971. He attended college at North Carolina Central University, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and Livingstone College. He received a degree in Electronics from Davidson Community College.
A member of Sandy Ridge AME Zion Church, he was a member of the Choir, Usher Board, and Trustee Board. He was also a board member of the Neely School Foundation where he served as Treasurer for 6 years.
In addition to his parents and birth mother, he was preceded in death by his brother, Cedric J. Blackwell; grandchildren, A’Janae D. Whitfeld, Antonio Sanders, and Taemon J. Blair; father-in-law, Ron Leitz; and mother-in-law, Carman Leitz.
Those left to cherish his memories are his wife, Lisa Marie Blackwell of the home; children, Alzad Blackwell of Salisbury, Archie Hunt of Raleigh, Taesha Hunt of Charlotte, Kent Burns, Jr. of Lexington, and Adam Dickerson of Winston-Salem; brother, Darrell M. Blackwell (Nancy) of Charlotte; sisters, Teresa B. Richardson (Alton) of Greenville, Lena B. Boger of Hagerstown, MD; brother-in-law, Kurt Leitz (Shannon) of Indiana; sisters-in-law, Virginia W. Blackwell and Linda Leitz (Stephen) of New Hampshire; aunt, Thelma Lipe; uncle, Bob Lipe; close cousin, Freddie L. McIlwain (Carolyn); close family and loving friends, Ive and Doug Veitch of Salisbury, Danny Neely, Dexter Mabry (Glo), and Anthony “Fat Cat” Barber; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends whom he loved.
