It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of David Gordon Miles, 73, of Nanaimo British Columbia. Dave passed away peacefully on September 30th after his brief battle with cancer.

He was born to parents George and Celeste Miles, on November 25, 1947 in Vancouver, BC. Dave was the third sibling after Hubert and Juanita, followed by Robert. Dave leaves behind his loving wife, Leona. He was a caring father to his children Stephen (Nea), Lisa (Herb), Laura (Chad) and Michael (Erin). Further survived by his twelve grandchildren Finn, Abigail, Sophia, Noah, Hannah, Sarah, Wyatt, Cecilia, Shae-Lynn, Natalie, Linden and Ella. Dave had a special relationship with his stepdaughters Melanie, Julie (Andrew) and Katie. Dave had many friends and family in his life that he valued immeasurably.

At the age of 17 he started his career with Royal Bank of Canada working in multiple locations throughout BC and the Yukon. He retired in 2005 in Nanaimo as Manager, Commercial Banking for Vancouver Island. He was known for his leadership and exceptional rapport with both his staff and clients. He received numerous awards for his outstanding performance.

Dave loved the opportunity to organize the annual baseball trip to see the Blue Jays with his sons and grandsons. There was always a smile on his face as he engaged in the baseball banter and the closeness it created. He took pleasure in a round of golf or a good cup of coffee with his buddies. This gave him the chance to exchange perspectives on current events.

Leona and Dave made many memories as they enjoyed travel adventures including cruising and road trips. Dave was a kind and gentle man who was always there when someone needed him. Known for his hilarious sense of humour, he made sure that others around him had a good time. The consummate host.

A celebration of Dave’s life will take place in the future when conditions allow. Leona would like to thank Dr. Dan Ontko for his compassion. Dave, your buddy Olaf will miss you, as will we all.
