Ervin Charles Abbott Obituary

Ervin Charles went home to be with his Friend and Lord Jesus on October 3, 2021, 2 months short of his 61st birthday. Ervin was born in Daysland, AB on December 6, 1960 to Lawrence and Alma (nee Danielson) Abbott. He grew up on the family homestead near Killam, AB and always loved farming and seeing things grow. He gave his life to the Lord at a young age and had a life-long passion for living out and sharing his faith. He met Sandra (nee Thiessen) in Taber, AB while he was there custom combining. They were married in Coaldale, AB on July 15, 1989. They moved to the Three Hills area in 1990 and shared much laughter and had many adventures together until his passing. They welcomed a son, Micah and daughter, Kayla to this union and he loved being a father. As the years went by he had the opportunity to mentor many young people. Arthur Choi became a member of the family and participated in many of the adventures. Erv wore many “hats” in his lifetime. Included in his resume was custom combining, custom ground and arial spraying and he was an electrician by trade working in the oilfield, managing projects for many years. He also spent sometime in the logging and trucking industries and was involved in the Christian music scene in the 80’s. Whenever there was a need for something to get done, he would research and learn how to get it accomplished and thereby adding another skill to his repertoire. His life’s motto was “If it can’t be done, it’s gotta be tried!” He always tried to help people meet their potential and thrive. Because of this, he participated in church committees, was on the Board of Millar College of the Bible and was a Board member of the Battle River-Crowfoot EDA. He enjoyed laughing, being with and encouraging people. He was always ready to share a cup of coffee with a friend or a stranger. Anyone was always welcome and many strangers quickly became friends. He loved music and loved playing his guitar. He enjoyed leading worship in church whenever he could. He loved quadding, motorcycling and competing in tractor pulls with his John Deere 820. Whenever he thought of someone he would give them a call to see how they were doing. He was the best at staying in touch with people – except for maybe his brother Danny who also has the same quality. His love for people was larger than life and he will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him. He was predeceased by his parents Lawrence and Alma Abbott, his father-in-law David Thiessen, and his brother-in-law Charles Manyo. Erv has left to carry on his legacy: Sandra his friend and loving wife of 32 years, his son and daughter-in-law Micah and Kirsty Abbott, his daughter Kayla Abbott, Arthur Choi and his beloved Mother-in-law Maria Thiessen. He also leaves behind 6 siblings, 8 sister’s-in -law, 6 brother’s-in-law and many nieces and nephews, cousins, Aunts & Uncles and friends whom he loved. What is Success – by Ralph Waldo Emerson To laugh often and much; to win the respect of the intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better whether a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition; to know that one life has breathed easier because you lived here. This is to have succeeded.
