John Gorden Boles Obituary

John Gorden Boles, 83, passed away quietly October 5, 2021 in Little Rock at the UAMS medical center where he was taken earlier that morning following a life-threatening fall in his home.  John, as most friends knew him, was a native of Dardanelle, Arkansas, born April 29, 1938.  He attended Dardanelle Public Schools, and while in high school played clarinet in the very first organized Dardanelle High Marching Band and participated in all sports. Baseball was his favorite sport and he loved attending baseball camp every summer.

Following high school graduation, John attended Texas A & M and Arkansas Tech University. Always a free spirit with a very charismatic personality, he liked to make his own decisions when  choosing his life’s path.  As a young man working at Ladd’s Furniture Store in Dardanelle, John experienced success as a salesman and enjoyed working with the customers. Quick to learn the business, John joined major furniture stores throughout Arkansas.  During those years, John was recognized numerous times as the Top Producer. In 1995, John and wife Sandra opened their own store, Furniture for Less, in Sherwood, Arkansas where they lived and raised their combined families for so many years.

In 2010 John and Sandra closed the store and John retired.   An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, spending time with friends and family, gardening, and chopping wood for the fireplace.  He loved to cook, and together John and Sandra always “shared the wealth” of freshly caught fish, barbeques, fresh tomatoes, and her numerous delicious desserts with family and neighbors. For some reason, their extended family “happened” to stop by often.

In 2015, FFO Home management approached John (age 77) to consider returning to sales and work on his own schedule.  Happy to discontinue retirement, he accepted the offer, and once again, to no one’s surprise, was recognized yet again as a Top Producer.  Early 2021, John decided to retire…one more time.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Gorden and Sarah Elizabeth “Polly” (Taylor) Boles.  He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Sandra Ruth (Moore) Boles; sister, Sylvia Ann (Boles) Hays; eight sons (and spouses);  John G. Boles II, Mike Allen, Steve Boles, Steve Allen, Ron Boles, Mike Boles, David Boles, and Chad Allen, 20 grandchildren, 11 greats, and many loving cousins, nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at Smith-Sherwood Funeral Home (7700 Hwy 107), October 14th, 6pm to 8pm.  Friends and family are invited.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests any memorials be made to a charity of choice.  For those who cannot attend, the family is providing the convenience of a Zoom link:
