Alpearl Moss Obituary

Alpearl “Pearl” Moss went home to be with the Lord on October 5, 2021. Pearl was born in Tunica, MS on August 2, 1934 to Uodis Butler and Julianne Taylor. She met and married her husband Eddie Moss on October 4, 1952. They moved with their children and other family members from Mississippi to Memphis, TN, then moving north in 1959 during the Great Migration. They settled in the Waukegan/North Chicago, IL area in 1959. Pearl was a member of Mt. Zion Church under the leadership of Rev. Bruce Ivy until 1974. She then became members of Mt. Sinai and Mt. Moriah Church under the leadership of Bishop Solomon Smith. Pearl served on the Willing Workers Committee, Sinites Choir and Mt. Moriah Choir, but she loved singing in the choir with her daughters. Pearl worked as a housekeeper for the Walk Family of Highland Park for many years. She then worked for Anchor Glass Company in Gurnee,IL from 1974 until her retirement in 1997 after 23 years of service. She also worked for Waukegan Schools as a cafeteria attendant from 2000 until she fully retired in 2012. Momma, as she was called by her family, loved to cook. Momma could make any type of dish, but she loved cooking Soul Food dinners. We will surely miss those Sundays at Momma and Daddy’s house, kids playing in the yard, cooking and grilling ribs, home made everything, pies and pound cake, good food and conversations with family and last but not least, that delicious homemade vanilla ice cream. Whatever she cooked, she put her “foot” in it! She loved spending time with her family, attending church, ironing and watching her daytime soap stories with her daughters and granddaughters. Momma also was a seamstress who could sew anything from dresses to choir robes. She was a loving and caring wife, mother, aunt, sister, grandmother, church member and friend to all who knew her. If you could count on anyone, you could count on her anytime. She leaves to cherish her memory: her son, Melvin Moss of Chicago, IL; her daughters, Barbara Ferguson and Julie (Clayton) Thorn of Waukegan, IL. She also leaves many grandchildren: Marlon (Cheryl D.) Moss of Zion, IL, Cheryl M. Moss of Kenosha, WI, Angela (Andrew) Terrall of Champaign, IL, Nikki Ferguson, Nia Ferguson, Renee Mitchell, Christina Grier, Latisha Grier, Melvin Taylor, Julian Moss, Clayton Thorn, Jr. and Cayla Thorn of Waukegan, IL. She also leaves great grandchildren: Darius, Daychaun and Danyelle Taylor and Christopher Moss of Zion, IL, Chandrea (Quentin) Bradford of Seattle, WA, Ashton and Trinedie Moss of Kenosha, WI, Ania, Xavier, and Kayla Clark of Champaign, IL, Nikolai Mitchell, Marquis, Montre and Marshaun Ferguson, Michael Springer, Jaythan Jones and Ayden Wester of Waukegan, IL., and great-great grandchildren: Mila Ferguson of Waukegan, IL, Azuri Clark of Champaign, IL and Chyah and Chalyce Bradford of Seattle, WA; nephew Calvin (Carolyn) Plunkett; nieces Lisa (Derek) Bostick of Racine, WI, Dwylia (Chris) Wright of Racine, WI, Carolyn (Lawrence) Hood, Sharon Plunkett and Lynita (Craig) Stratton of Seattle, WA.
