Stephen Rae Smith "Grizz", 69, of Lafayette, IN, passed away on Wednesday, October 6, 2021. He was born on November 20, 1951 in Paris, Illinois to the late James Wiley and Effie (Duckworth) Smith. Stephen served in the United States Army in the 173rd Airborne Brigade and later received his degree from Ivy Tech in HVAC. His first marriage was to Deborah Smith Lux and they later divorced. His second marriage was to Jane Leann Henley and they later divorced. Grizz worked for Ice Cream Specialties as the Head of Refrigeration Maintenance. He helped with fundraising and the food banks for United Way. Stephen enjoyed rebuilding lawn equipment, riding his Harley, and the outdoors, especially the Wildcat Creek. Surviving are his children, Amanda Silvers Mason of Terre Haute, Amy (Marc) Earl of Nappanee, Eric Smith of Bradenton, FL, Andrew Smith of Bowling Green, KY, and Emily (John "JJ" Franklin Wilson III) of Bradenton, FL; his siblings, Deborah Christine Jackson, Wiley Duane Smith, James Wiley Smith, Jr., Vonnie Kevin Smith, and Mary Angela Pounds; his grandchildren, Joshua Silvers, Katherine Silvers, Ryan Silvers, Leia Earl, Austin Earl, Matthew Earl, and Gabriella Mason; great grandson, Jordan Rae Silvers; and his dog, Sheba. In addition to his parents, Stephen was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Allen Smith. Private Services will be held.
