Wallace L. "Sonny" English

<p>Wallace L. &ldquo;Sonny&rdquo; English, 90, of East Springfield, died Tuesday, October 5, 2021, at Pleasant Ridge Manor following a brief illness.<br /> &nbsp;He was born June 14, 1931, in East Springfield, on &ldquo;Flag Day&rdquo;, a son of the late, Clair A. and Oleta (Loucks) English.<br /> Sonny graduated from Springfield Township High School in 1950. As America was at war in Korea, he enlisted in the U. S. Marine Corps. He was deployed to the Korean Theater and later returned to the United States where he was honorably discharged at Quantico, VA in 1954. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal.<br /> When Sonny returned home, he began employment at Hammermill Paper in Erie and while working attended the Ora Jean Beauty Academy in Erie, where he learned the trade of a Barber. He drove school bus in the Albion area and operated his own barber shop in West Springfield for several years. He later began operations of his own excavating business and worked for Horton Pre Cast in Girard. He eventually became employed there as well. Sonny retired from the excavating business and the family farm in Springfield Twp.<br /> He was a member of the East Springfield Boro Council; a charter member of the V.F.W. Post #4965 in West Springfield, The Girard American Legion Post #494, Loyal Order of Moose#381/481 in Albion, The Albion Lodge #304&nbsp; F &amp; AM; Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Erie. In 2010, he attained the honorary 33rd. degree from the Scottish Rite. Sonny loved fishing and hunting, especially on his farm and in Montana for elk and mule deer. He was a &ldquo;Dowser&rdquo;, for many in the area, locating water on individuals&rsquo; properties. He loved an occasional beer and really, just shooting the breeze with his friends.<br /> In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Martha Barnes, and Mary Lasher also a brother, Robert English in infancy.<br /> Sonny will be greatly missed by his family, which include his daughters, Loreen E. Lasher (Ken), Dianne O. Snow; sons, Roger V. English (Debra) and Andy C. English; his grandchildren, Steven English (Laura), Stephanie Furr (Cody), Megan Tillery (Cris), Jessica Church (Steven), Benjamin Snow (Peter Burns), Christina Snow and Fianc&eacute;&rsquo; (Adam Sprague); great grandchildren, Grace, Ethan, Madison, Amelia and JC also several nieces and nephews.<br /> Sonny&rsquo;s family would like to thank everyone at the Erie VA, especially VA Home Based Primary Care Nurse Rich and Heartfelt&rsquo;s Home Healthcare, Jen for great care over the years.<br /> Friends are invited to attend a Graveside Service on Friday October 15, at 10 AM at the Springfield Cemetery with full military honors.<br /> In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to VFW Post 4965, 13755 Chestnut St, West Springfield, PA 16443 or Pleasant Ridge Manor Friends Forever, 8300 West Ridge Rd, Girard, PA 16417, or Families of the Wounded Fund P.O. Sonny, your friendship and all that goes along with a great friend will be missed.
