Rollande B. Bald Obituary

Rollande Beatrice (Verdo) Bald, 92, of Westerly, Rhode Island passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of her family on Tuesday, October 5, 2021 at the Royal Westerly. She was the loving wife of Louis E. Bald Jr. and together they shared 69 years of marriage on October 4. Born in Rock Forest, Sherbrooke, Quebec Canada on March 14, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Dominique and Rosilda (Rosby) Verdo.

Rollande was a devout Catholic, a longtime member of St. Joseph’s Parish in Bristol, CT., she donated her time as a member of the “Ladies of St. Anne” a French-speaking parish. She gave her time to several charities including cancer society, making rosaries and food for church fundraisers.
Never one to fear hard work, she spent several years in the dietary department at Bristol Hospital and Bellevue nursing home.
In her free time she enjoyed fishing with her husband and traveling to the great outdoors in their camper, visiting most US states and Alaska. She loved birds (especially Cardinals), wildlife, and the peace and quiet of the forests, lakes and stream which they often visited.
Rollande spent her summers tending to her garden, canning tomatoes, and growing flowers. She also loved to cook, especially baking homemade breads, meat pies and desserts. Her family was very important to her. She loved hosting holiday dinners, sharing pictures of family members, and listening to their stories. She often spoke of her own joys and stories of her life experiences. She enjoyed a wide range of music from opera (Caruso, Pavarotti), country (Patsy Cline) to Quebec folk tunes (la Bolduc).

Besides her husband Louis, she leaves her children Sandra Sikorski, Gloria Fontaine and husband Michael, Russell Bald and wife Jill, Lisa Garand and husband Michael; her grandchildren Renee Grace, Aaron Sikorski, Toby Fontaine, Tyler Garand, Nathan Garand; great-grandchildren Owen Grace and Nora Grace; her brother Jean Verdo; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
