Stephen A. Woodard
<p>BANGOR - Stephen Alfred Woodard passed away peacefully at home September 22nd, 2021. Born in Bangor, Maine, March 13, 1958, he entered the world and did things his way. The son of Alfred Wendell Woodard and Marilyn Ella (Thompson) Woodard, he had a lot of fun in life. As a child, Steve was warmly welcomed and spent a great deal of time goofing with his neighborhood friends, giving him many “second” homes on Grove Street.</p><p><br></p><p>Known to some as Steve, Stevie, Sammy or “The Bull”, he graduated from Bangor High School in 1976 with a love of school sports. He played on the Bangor High School varsity football. He also had a love for acting. He was cast as Pappy Yokum in the high school’s performance of Lil’ Abner. Steve earned several accolades for his amazing animated performances. Even until his passing, his friends mentioned his Lil’ Abner performance in conversation. </p><p><br></p><p>After high school, Steve attended Daniel Webster College in Nashua, New Hampshire. During his time in college, he was enrolled as both a computer science student as well as a student of the aviation program. You see, Steve was especially rambunctious as a young man. He always captivated his closest friends with stories of pranks, and crazy times. One specific “incident” involved a “borrowed” aircraft. </p><p><br></p><p>Late one evening, Steve decided to “borrow” an aircraft from the flight line. He took off and flew this aircraft, as a prank, under a bridge. Unbeknownst to Steve, he scared the daylights out of someone walking their dog, who reported the identification number of the plane to the proper authorities. Let’s just say – Steve was never back in the pilot’s seat ever again.</p><p><br></p><p>After college, and until his early retirement Steve raised a family and held a highly successful and responsible career with Hewlett-Packard as a software engineer, living and working in New Hampshire, Georgia, and Colorado.</p><p>Steve loved to ride motorcycles, hang out with his closest friends, enjoy time with his family, and debate politics with anyone that would lend an ear. But for those who new him best, FUN was his middle name.</p><p><br></p><p>He leaves behind a litany of family, friends, and folks that loved him and his huge heart. He is survived by his eldest son, Jason Woodard; and grandson, Lucas Woodard, of Northglenn, Colorado. He was predeceased sadly in 2019, by his son, Marine Sgt. Justin Stephen Woodard. </p><p><br></p><p>He is also survived by his sister, Rebecca (Woodard) Inman and her husband, Richard, of Hermon, Maine; his sister, Cheryl (Woodard) Fontaine and her husband, Louis, of Sidney, Maine; his brother, David Woodard and his wife, Debbie, of Palm Beach, Florida; his aunt, Marguerite (Thompson) Haskell, of Levant, Maine, his aunt Marie (Thompson) Reed and her husband, Gilbert, of Levant, Maine. He is also survived by several cousins, nieces, and nephews.</p><p><br></p><p>He is now at home, within the gates of heaven, with his mom, dad, Justin, and his favorite dog, Duke.</p><p>A graveside service will be held at 12:00 PM, Saturday, October 23, 2021, at North Carmel Cemetery, Carmel. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at Seasons, 427 Main St., Bangor, following the interment.</p>March 13, 1958 - September 22, 202103/13/195809/22/2021
