Maria Monafis

Maria Eugenia Monafis, 84, of Holmdel passed away on Sunday, October 24, 2016 at CareOne at Holmdel. Maria was born in Athens, Greece and lived in Australia before moving to the United States in 1969. The youngest in her graduating class from design school, Maria possessed tremendous talent and creativity. She loved to cook and bake, and was passionate about Greece. Maria was predeceased by her parents, Stelianos and Sophia Mavrogiannis; her husband, Efstratios Monafis; and her siblings, Nicholas Mavrogiannis, Katherina Alexopoulou, Demitri Mavrogiannis and Constantine Mavrogiannis. She is survived by two sons, Nicholas Monafis and his wife, Kathleen, of Manalapan, and Stelianos Monafis and his wife, Irini, also of Manalapan; and six grandchildren, Efstratios, Michael John, Alec Christopher, Marilena, Nicole, and Stamati Efstratios. Visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM. Relatives and friends are invited to gather at 10:00 AM at the funeral home on Wednesday, April 27, 2016 for the procession to her 11:30 AM funeral service at Kimisis Tis Theotokou Greek Orthodox Church, 20 Hillcrest Road, Holmdel.
