Thomas J. Mariani Jr. Santa Rosa, California Obituary

Thomas J. Mariani Jr.

Thomas John Mariani, Jr. of Santa Rosa passed away peacefully, with family by his side, on September 28, 2021. He was born to Barbara Smith and Tom Mariani, Sr. in San Francisco, CA on January 11, 1948. His youth was split between Humboldt County, with his Mom’s family, and Daly City, with his Dad and beloved stepmom, Gloria Lesser. He graduated from high school in Daly City. After high school he attended Cal State Hayward, where he majored in English. Tom made a career in banking, but never lost his passion for writing and poetry. In retirement, Tom was published in the San Francisco SoMa Literary Journal and in SRJC annual art and literary journals. Tom coached his two sons, Tommy and Marc, in youth football, but his greater accomplishment was being all of his children’s #1 fan. Never missing a little league game, even if meant showing up at the ballpark, straight from work, in his 3-piece suit. When his daughter, Gina, played basketball for SRJC he logged many miles to see her play every game. Tom is survived by the love of his life, Marina Mariani, sons Tommy (Melanie) and Marc (Selena), daughter Gina (Justin), grandchildren Jacob, Mayci, Giuliana, Angela, Robert, Andrew, and Logan, sisters Debbe and Cindy, brother Mike, and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Friday, October 8th at 5:30 pm, followed by a rosary beginning at 6:30 pm, at Daniels Chapel of the Roses. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, October 9th, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the American Diabetes Association or the California Innocence Project.
