Paul "Cave" Johnson Obituary

Born July 21, 1960 to John and Mary Johnson. The youngest of eight children.

Paul completed all of his schooling in Churchbridge and moved on to work underground at the Mine in Snow Lake. Paul then worked in the shaft at Esterhazy K1 Mine the remainder of his career – where everybody knew him as “Caveman”. Paul took pride in his work, but was always up for a practical joke on his “old sons”.

Paul was a passionate goaltender and played for the Churchbridge Imperials most of his hockey career. Anybody who attended his games in Canora would remember the crowd chanting “Chewbacca” as he skated on to the ice in his goalie attire.

Paul also enjoyed playing golf with many of his friends – so much so, that he was often dragging his young children with him strapped to the cart in their car seats.

Paul’s prized possession was his 1967 Chevrolet Camaro – spring never officially arrived in Churchbridge until you could hear Caveman across town blaring tunes from his car.

In September of 1989, Paul married Sherry Thompson and together they had three children – Lance, Dylan and Catlin. Paul was an active father figure and enjoyed spending time with his family on various camping trips and vacations – most notably in Deadwood, ND and Mexico.

Paul was well known in Churchbridge – he had many friends in the town and surrounding communities that will remember him for his kind heart, mischievous attitude, and his willingness to help out anyone.

As Paul’s health declined over the last ten years, he was not able to do the things he normally enjoyed. He spent most of his time at his home or could be seen scootering around in the community. Paul passed away peacefully in his home on the evening of October 5, 2021.

Paul valued his large family and enjoyed hosting family gatherings at his home. He is predeceased by his parents John and Mary; brothers Hal, Ken and Larry; sister Ruth; and brothers-in-law Gary and Mike.

Surviving are Paul’s two sons Lance and Dylan; daughter Catlin; sisters Lorna (Henry), Irene, Cheryl (Ralph); sister-in-law Pat and numerous nieces and nephews.

The funeral service was held Wednesday, October 13, 2021 from Concordia Lutheran Church. Officiated by Rev. Daphne Bender.
