Janet Wilhelm Garrett

Janet Wilhelm Garrett, of Sparks, Maryland, age 82, passed away on Thursday, October 7, 2021. She was born February 4, 1939, in Upperco, MD. She was the daughter of the late Elwood Clinton and Dorothy Elizabeth (Wisner) Wilhelm. Mrs. Garrett attended Fifth District Elementary School and Hereford High School. She was married to Donald “Andy” Garrett for 63 years. Mrs. Garrett grew up attending Hampstead Baptist Church, where her parents were the founding members. Mrs. Garrett volunteered as a Sunday School and vacation bible school teacher. She loved flowers and enjoyed sharing her talents by decorating the church sanctuary for every holiday. Mrs. Garrett was also a long time greeter at church and would always be ready with a hug and a smile for members and visitors. She was self-employed for decades, working beside her husband in their cleaning business. In addition, she was also a long time volunteer of 13 years at the Greater Baltimore Medical Center. She also volunteered with Santa Claus Anonymous and the Hereford High School Hot Rod Group. In addition to her spouse, she is survived by her daughter, Lisa A. Garrett of Costa Rica, and son, Timothy A. Garrett (Dana) of Ellicott City, MD and two grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Ruth Razzano (Joseph) of Westminster, MD and Doris Marshall of Belair, MD as well as brothers Richard Wilhelm (Judy) of Hampstead, MD and Mark Wilhelm (Karen) of Lineboro, MD. Due to the pandemic, a private graveside service will be held at Forest Ridge Cemetery for family only. Memorial contributions may be made to Gilchrist Hospice Care, 11311 McCormick Road, Suite 350 Hunt Valley, MD 21031.
