Michael Lewis Winston

Michael Lewis Winston, age 60, a resident of Altus, Oklahoma, passed away on Thursday, October 7, 2021 at Jackson County Memorial Hospital in Altus.<br /><br /><br />Michael was born on December 10, 1960 to parents: Lewis Winston and Louise Hale Winston in St. Louis, Missouri. He was raised and educated in St. Louis and joined the United States Air Force in 1981. Michael's military career spanned 10 years and included duty stations at Kadena AFB in Okinawa, Japan; Bentwaters AFB, England; and Altus AFB, in Altus, OK. On May 4, 1985, Michael married Sandra Turbe-Winston in St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands. He later attended college and graduated with a Bachelor's Degree.<br /><br /><br />Michael worked in several specialty occupations over the course of his life: US Air Force (1981-1991) FlightSafety (1997-2011); Community Action’s Head Start program (2012-2015); and Civil Service (2016-2021. He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church, a community volunteer in the Fatherhood programs with Community Action's Head Start, and member of the American Legion Post 44.<br /><br /><br />In his spare time, Michael enjoyed music, fishing, biking, camping, and traveling. He led a life of service and devoted much of his time to volunteering with various youth organizations such as the Big Brother Program, Special Olympics, and the Tipton Children's Home, where he helped during the Christmas holidays. He was also a committed den leader of the Cub Scouts pack 212, TSA parent volunteer with Navajo School for state competitions; and involved in a plethora of other organizations and activities of purpose.<br /><br /><br />Michael was preceded in death by his father, Lewis Winston.<br /><br /><br />He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Sandra Turbe-Winston of the home<br /><br /><br />Mother: Louise Winston<br /><br /><br />Son: Derik L. Winston & wife, Elida<br /><br /><br />Daughter: Jene' M. Winston<br /><br /><br />Brother: Douglas Jones & partner, Ron<br /><br /><br />Sisters: Leeanna Winston; Mary winston; Joyce Winston; Viola Johnson; Betty Crosby & husband, Steve<br /><br /><br />Grandchildren: Lily A. Winston and Nicolus A. Winston<br /><br /><br />Nephews: Turyan Winston; Tierre Winston; Tremaine Winston; Christopher Crosby; and Brandon Maull<br /><br /><br />Nieces: Kinyotta Johnson; Panjana Johnson; Christina Crosby; and Tenika Balaski as well as a host of other relatives and friends.<br /><br /><br />Michael was a gentle soul, who was very proud of his family and the life we built together over the years.
