Mary Sylvia Fudge Obituary

Mary Sylvia (Slade) Fudge

North Sydney

It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, sister and aunt, Sylvia Fudge, age 81, on Wednesday, October 6, 2021 at the Northside General Hospital.

Born in Florence on February 29, 1940, she was the daughter of the late John and Violet (Patey) Slade.  Mom was a beautiful baker and she was famous for it.  Her fruit cakes always sold out at Kate’s Ice Cream Parlour where she worked for a number of years.  She also worked at Annfield Manor where her confections were popular, especially with one famous customer.  Mom was flattered when her musical idol Rita MacNeil once offered her a job at her tea room.  Her home often smelled of fresh baked bread and cookies.  Her motto was; “I love you. Eat”. Nobody could say no to a tasty treat when visiting, and of course, mom always had the kettle on for anyone who stopped by. Mom was a wizard when it came to crossword puzzles and she loved playing cards, especially crib.

Over the years she volunteered with the ladies auxiliary and worked the canteen at the Northside General Hospital and later baked with seniors in the Northside Community Guest Home.  Mom loved people and she was proud when she was involved in those activities.

What mom loved more than baking was her family.  Her children were her pride and joy and she adored her grand and great-grandchildren.  She would light up when her grandkids visited or was shown photos.

Mom is survived by her children; Tommy (Darlene) Morris, Terry (Kim) Morris, Ian (Irene) Morris, Sibby (John) Fudge, Rob (Kim) Morris, Kerry Anne (Chris) Campbell, step-children Ethel (Eldridge) King and Eve Fudge.  She is also survived by her 13 grandchildren, her 12 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.  Also surviving are her two brothers John and Donald Slade, nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her loving husband Charlie, who she adored, her grandson Ryan, her brothers Ern and Bob, sisters Mae and Shirley, two brothers in infancy and sister-in-law Mary Slade.

Visitation for Sylvia will be held from 7-9 p.m. on Friday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney.  A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday in the Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Stephen Mills officiating.  Covid-19 restrictions will be in place with Proof of Vaccination, the wearing of masks and social distancing for the wake and funeral.  In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia.  Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.wjdooley.com.

“We will miss you mom”

Now she’s “tickety boo”
