Cecil "Ed" Coates, 90, died peacefully on May 22, 2017. He lived at Den-Mar Health & Rehabilitation in Rockport with Bea, his loving wife of 67 years. Originally from Brighton, he lived for 51 years in Melbourne, Florida where he worked as a Quality Engineer. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII as a radio operator. He was dedicated to his family and faith, serving as a decades- long Sunday School teacher, Elder, Christian Camp and Vacation Bible School teacher, song leader, an informal lay minister, and many other roles, for the First Christian Church of Melbourne. He was also a scout leader for both Boy and Girl Scouts, and an avid camper and sailor. He lived at Millbrook Park in Rockport for 5 years and found a church home at the First Baptist Church of Rockport. He was a man of faith and had an every day relationship with his God. He loved singing hymns and uplifting others. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Beatrice Gomes Coates, and his daughters Margie Coates of Bayfield, Colorado, and Andrea Coates Vinson of Rockport, their husbands Don Kelly and Bob Vinson, and his beloved grandson, Sam Vinson, plus his many relatives, church family, and close friends. He would want us to know ICDATTCWSM, and find comfort in John 14:2.
A Memorial Service will be held at the First Baptist Church of Rockport on Saturday, May 27, at 3:00. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Den-Mar Activities Fund at Den-Mar Health & Rehabilitation, 44 South St., Rockport, MA 01966
